Mr G. Curtain arrived by last evening’s express from Christchuich. Miss N. McNabb left yesterday by express on a short holiday visit to Christchurch. Mr Hugh Proctor “The Wonder Glass Blower” will arrive in Greymouth this morning in the course oi a tour. Dr J. A. Chunn of Auckland arrived last evening by express, on a holiday visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs A. H. Chunn of Murray Street, Greymouth. Following is the Albion Hotel guest list.—Mr and Mrs J. A Cape Town cable said the former London typist, Ruth Williams, who married the prospective chief of Bechuanaland tribe, the Bamangwalos (named Serelse Khama) was on Monday proclaimed by women ol the tribe as a “goddess”. Wearing a floral dress, she spoke briefly in tribal language at Sechijana, and women screamed a welcome in highpitched voices, which could be heard everywhere in the village of Palapye, where the Khamas are living. Some South African newspapers . were not enthusiastic about her arrival, lhe Nationalist Die Burger called her a “foolish, ignorant young woman , and said: “There exists in the union a certainty that our own colour problem will be detrimentally influenced if Seretse Khama and his white wife are permitted to assume the Bamangwato chieftainship”. The tribal chiefs do not want the woman.
