The Works and Town Planning Committees’ reports- to the Greymouth Borough Council' on Thursday evening were as follows:— The following were the recommendations set out in the monthly report:— Blaketown Ratepayers’ Assn, requested attention to kerbing and channelling on the western side of Doyle Street from O’Grady Street, Coakley Street at the corner of Packer’s Quay and O’Grady Streets and corner Preston Road and Swift Streets, ft was decided* to reply that the contractors are fully occupied under the present programme, and that there is' no prospect of additional work being undertaken in the present financial year, but consideration will be given to inclusion in the schedule for next year. Greymouth Harbour Board wrote re. new footbridge to Blaketown, advising that the Governor-General-in-Council has approved of the plans of the new bridge,’ and application has been made through the Minister of Works for a fl for fl subsidy towards the cost. The Engineer was given authority to arrange for the erection of six additional lights to provide adequate lighting to the parking areas. Cr. Blanchfield moved, and Cr Stokes seconded, that the New Zealand Railways be requested to send an officer to discuss with the Council the provision of a bus station and bus shelters on routes served by them. The Committee met Mr. W. V. Couch, architect for R.S.A. committee, regarding proposals for a new R.S.A. building at the corner of Tainui Street, Griffen’s Hill and Turumaha Street, but no finality was reached. The Town Planning Board, Wellington, wrote enquiring what progress has been made by Greymouth Harbour Board in adopting the suggestion in the report on the harbour. —lt was decided that the Engineer reply giving details. The Central Queen Committee, Greymouth, applied for permission to erect a marquee on the Town Hall site for the final two days of the Queen Carnival, September 9 and 10, to be dismantled the following day. —The application was approved. Cobden Ratepayers’ Assn, wrote re. water table on the northern side of Ward Street and the trees on the river side, between the quarry and Cobden Bridge, requesting that the former should be put in order, and the latter cut down.—lt was decided that these matters be left to the Engineer. Mrs. C. Keating., wrote re. Fox Street footpath, asking attention. —It was decided that the matter be left in the Engineer’s hands to attend to. ' The Department of Housing Construction advised re. Cobdeja. drainage that the scheme submitted by the Engineer has been carefully studied, and submitting alternative scheme and plan thereof. —It was decided that the Engineer arrange a date for the Department’s representative to meet the Committee. The Works Committee District Architect, submitted for consideration a plan showing proposals for alteration and additions to the Greymouth Technical High School. —It was decided to recommend to Council that a reply be sent 'stating that Council ment of the buildings nearer to High Street frontage than set down undei’ the Town Planning Code, and that the suggestion be made that the four additions concerned Jbe located on oart of the present football field, also, that the Council will agree to provide facilities for use of playing areas on the Recreation Ground at a nominal rental.
