REEFTON NOTES

(Our Gv-.n Correspondent) At the monthly meeting of the Reelton Labour Party, held in the Council Chambers, on Wednesday evening ,it was decided that the secretary communicated with Hon. Miss M. B. Howard, Minister of Healh, m an endeavour to have the Minister deliver a public address in Reefton on September 17 and 18. A large number attended the 19th birthday party of the Reefton W.L reecntly. Solos were rendered >by Miss D. Sara and the humorous recitations by Miss P. Caldwell, and were well applauded as were the plays by members of the Institute; the songs by the choir were also much appreciated. Something nev in the form of a song and dance act which included “The ’Amstead Way" and the “Lambeth Walk” was introduced by the ladies. The roll call was answered by sister institutes from all parts of the Coast. The president (Mrs Hobbs) announced the main event of the evening, the cutting of the birthday cake, while the members sang the Institute song. A dainty supper was served and dancing followed, Mrs Kidd being the pianist. Points prizes for the year’s work were awarded.— Mrs Sharpe 1, Mrs Eager 2. A lucky box of chocolates was won by Master John Crossman. Mr G. Havil, of Maruia, who has been a patient in the Pjeefton Hospital has returned home. The wedding took place recently of Thelma Myra, fourth daughter of Mrs and Mr Reid, of Reefton, to Eric Ronald Langley of Christchurch. The bride, who was escorted tv her father, wore a frock of pale blue with a yoke of lace and <a blue picture hat to match. She carried a boquet of laffodils and violets. Mrs Wesley, sister of the bridq was matron of honour, and wore a lemon frock embroidered at the waist and a blue hat. She carried a bosuet of daffodils and friesias. The duties of best man were carried out by Brian Gavin of Reefton. The guests vyere received at the home of the pride’s parents by her mother, who wore a black costume and hat to match.
