Railcar Ruction Lands Young Maoris In The Court
P.A. WAIROA, August IS. As the result of a disturbance on a Gisborne-Wairoa rail-car on June 17, which caused a delay of 50 minutes at Kopuawhara, two young Maori labourers appeared in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr Sinclair S.M., yesterday. Papa Taurimu, 19. was charged with behaving in a disorderly manner in the railcar, and also with consuming liquor on the railcar, obstructing the guard ami using obscene language. Hikh Ruki 30. was charged with behaving in an offensive manner, also with consuming liquor on the railcar. Remarking it was not the first time taurimu had been before the Court, owing to his using his fists, Mr Sinclair sentenced him to seven days’ hard labour on the first count, an ’ imposed fines totalling £5 with costs £2 14s for the other offences. The first charge against Ruki was dismissed, but he was fined £5 with costs 15s for drinking liquor on the railcar.
