Communist Party Decides to Run Candidate in Westland

Mr F. G. Thomson, secretary of the West Coast district of the Communist Party, stated last evening.—At a conference of the Communist Party, members of Westland, it was unanimously decided that a candidate stand for the Westland l electorate at the forthcoming General Election. The Communist Party arrived at this decision after an exhaustive discussion on the need to halt the drift towards war and the fascistization of the Trade Union Movement: to expose the attack on civil liberties, and the need to arrest the deebne in the New Zealand workers’ living standards. A contributing factor in this decision, is the party’s wellfounded conviction that there is no fundamental difference between the Labour P‘art v and the National Part” when it is a matter of attacking the working class.
