GOOD PROSPECT OF SCHOOL BUS SERVICE FROM KUMARA

In furtherance of its enquiries as to a proposed bus service for pupils between here and Kumara. the Greymouth Technical School _ Board has obtained from the Education Department, advice which, in the opinion of the members, is favourable. The Department asked how many would in the next year, be likely to use such a service. It was reported that the acting-principal had written to the Kumara, and all intervening schools, requesting the roll numbers, so as to determine as near as possible the number of pupiSs from thoie areas xikelv to be attending the Technical School in the next three years. " The Department considered Mr Dark’s proposal to run the service very considerate. It was stated that at present these pupils die! not reach school until 10.10 a.m. The accommodation problem was acute, the hostel was already booked out for 1950, and applications were already to hand for 1951. Building Plans The chairman, Ms D. S. Kennedy, said that he had interviewed the structural engineer to the Ministry ol Works, who hoped to have plans of the proposed buildings finalised in the near future. Mr F. L. Turley: “When 1 will that be? Mitchell, stated.— To date, the' roll stands at 377 —IS2 girls and 195 boys. The position left vacant by Mr Bcanlon’s resignation has been ’filled, subject to departmental approval, and the applicant has been advised accordingly. A temporary assistant to Mr Newcombe, the caretakeer has been secured, and I underestand, he will stay <? ver v.V vacation period to help him with the work, which would, otherwise, be too much for one man.
