GRAND JURY RETURNS NO BILL ON THEFT CHARGE

P.A. NAPIER, April 2. Finding that there was insufficient evidence to warrant the trial of Benjamin James Rossiter, of Dannevirke, who had .been committed to the Supreme Court for trial on a charge of thr-ft, the Grand Jury returned no bill against him in the Supreme Court at Napier this afjernoon. Rossiter was charged with stealing 13 bags of stock food valued at £lO ss, the property of Joseph Donald Alymer Painton, at Dannevirke, on November 15, 1947. No bill was also returned on the alternative charge that having re> ceivcd stock food on terms requiring him to account for it, Rossiter converted it to his own use, thereby committing theft.
