Mr and Mrs A. W. Kelly have returned from Christchurch.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mrs Mary Dennehy was passed at yesterday’s meeting of the Grey County Council. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. At last evening’s meeting of the Greymouth Technical High School Board of Governors, a motion of sympathy was accorded Mrs G. Blair, who at present is a patient 1 in the Christchurch Hospital. Mr J. B. Shannon, of Wellington, and formerly of Greymouth, was successful in the recent commerce examinations held by the university of New Zealand, passing in the subjects of book-keeping and Accounts 11, and Secretarial Law and Practice. The funeral of Mrs Mary Merchtildes Dennehy, which took place at the Karoro Cemetery yesterday morning, was very largely attended. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church by the Rt. Rev. Monsignor J. Long, there being .also present Rev. Fathers A. Kennedy, S. (St. Bede’s College, Christchurch), V. Flaherty (Papanui), J. Quinn (Ahaura), W. O’Mahoney. (Runanga), and T. Daly. The music for the Mass was sung by St. Alary’s Choir. Among the large congregation were representatives of organisations with which the late Mrs Dennehy had been associated, including the ’ St. Patrick’s Altar Society and Greymouth branch of the Flunket Society, as well as members of local bodies. The Rt. Rev. Monsignor T. performed the last rites at the graveside, being assisted by other members of the clergy. The bearers were Messrs M. McGrath, M. O’Brien, J. Johnston, J. Kennedy, K. Coll and R. Baird.
