U.S. NAVY’S BIG MANOEUVRES WITH ATOMIC ATTACK

(Rec. 9.50) SAN JUAN (Puertorico). Feb. 26 The United States Navy will put its atomic defences to their biggest test, to-morrow in the Caribbean Sea in manoeuvres. A two-engined “enemy” Neptune bomber will try to bring off a simulated atomic air burst over carriers and other warships wnich will be making a rendezvous for an amphioious assault on Vieques Island, oft the south-east coast of Puertorico.

The Neptune has been announced as a type of plane that the Navy would use to carry atomic bombs in the event of war.

The navy’s U.S. current manoeuvres are the largest in its peace-time history. Naval officers claim that they have planned an extended cruising formation that would hold the losses from atomic bombing to a maximum of one ship.
