CROQUET GOOD WEATHER FOR CONTINUANCE OF TOURNAMENT
Fine weather yesterday enabled the West Coast Croquet io make better progress with the annual tournament, particularly in the singles events and the championship doubles. A feature of yesterday’s play was the close scoring in several of the matches, especially in the handicap singles, when Mrs Rhodes defeated Mrs Lambert, 26-24. Mrs Rhodes is playing consistently good croquet. Results were: — Championship Singles
First round (first life). —Mrs Nicholls (Christchurch) defeated Mrs Sloe (Westport) 26-19. Second round. —Mr Petty (Nelson) defeated Mrs Shannon (Greyniouth) 26-16; Mr Petty (Nelson) defeated Mrs Bull (Christchurch) 26-18. Third round, first life. —Mrs Martin (Christchurch) defeated Dlrs Nottle (Westport) 26-4; Mrs Brunt (Nelson) won by default from Miss McDowall (Ashburton), Mr Petty (Nelson) defeated Mrs Bull (Christchurch) 26-18, Mrs Nicholls (Christchurch) defeated Mrs Brunt (Nelson) 26-15. Second life.—Mrs Wilson (Runanga) defeated Mrs Shannon (Greymouth) 26-19; Mrs Nottle (Westport) defeated Mrs Slee (Westport) 26-23. Handicap Singles Mrs Hosking defeated Mrs Lambert 26-18: Mrs Rhodes defeated Mrs Lambert 26-14; Mrs Hosking defeated Mrs Rhodes by default. Championship Doubles
