LABOUR NOT HOLDING SNAP ELECTION IN BRITAIN
LONDON, Feb. 24
At the week-end the Labour Party will hold at Shanklin, on the Isle of Wight, a conference at which the party’s programme will be settled for the next general election. ‘lt is stated authoritatively that there is no intention of staging a snap general election and that this will not be discussed. In any case the timing of a general election is purely a matter for the Cabinet, not for the executive. The conference will be attended by all the members of the party’s national executive, the whole Cabinet and some Ministers outside the Cabinet. The conference will decide issues on which the next election will be fought. It is expected that nationalisation will be reduced to a minimum in the party’s programme. The Laboui- Party has announced that the national executive committee has declined to endorse the candidature of the Labour M.P., Mr K. Z’lliacus, at the general election. Mr Zilliacus is an advocate of co-opera-tion with Russia.
