POSSESSION OF HOUSE GRANTED

V/ELLINGTON, Feb 25

An unusual objection to an application for possession of a tenanted property was offered in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court. The alternative accommodation being offered was stated to be too big. The application was by the Post and _ Telegraph Department, for possession of a house in Waitoa road, Hataitai, which it intends to demolish to make way for a telephone exchange. The department offered the tenant a flat over the Seatoun Post Office. Counting a detached room, the flat included four bedrooms. The tenant’s counsel submitted that it was fantastic that accommodation sufficient for a family of four or five should be occupied bv a widow. The Magistiate (Mr J.H. Thompson, S.M.) held that while this was a novel point, lie had a Labour Department certificate holding that the alternative accommodation was suitable.
