Geese and Lamb At Camping Party
WELLINGTON, Feb. 24 The story of a camping party which involved three millhands at Akatarawa in prosecutions for theft was told in the Lower Hutt Police Court to Mr J. S. Hanna, S.M., by SeniorSergeant J. L. Adams, who said that the three men, Alfred Richard Drake, years of age, Douglas Miles Brown, 18'and Walter Richard Rolleston, 25, had been found camping on the property of a farmer, Mr S. G. Gregory. It'was noticed that the party had apparently shot five geese. Gregory was advised and found five of his geese missing. By this time the men had decamped, and investigations showed part of the body of a cooked lamb, which was ascertained to be the property of another farmer, Mr b. J. Maher. , The men each pleaded guilty to the two charges of theft and each was fined £5 and ordered to make reparation of £4 3s 4d to the owner of tne geese. On the charge of the theft of the lamb each was fined £2 10s and ordered to pay 10s to the owner.
