TRANSJORDAN KING DEFINES HIS ATTITUDE
LONDON, Feb. 22 Giving his views on the Transjor-dan-Israeli armistice talks which are to begin at Rhodes on Friday, King Abdullah told the Amman correspondent of The Times that any Transjordan delegation would also speak for Iraq. Its terms of reference would be in no way rigid. It would be authorised to compromise, but on some issues it would be adamant. There could be no compromise about the future of Jerusalem. His claims in Jerusalem were not excessive. They were for the Old City and those areas which had previously been occupied by Arabs. He had no claim on Jewish Jerusalem, but the Old City would never be yielded up to Israel. On this basis he was prepared to negotiate, added King Abdullah, but if Israel proved intransigent and resorted to force of arms, the Arab Legion would be ready.
British Jew Seeks Israel Nationality
[From a Reuter Correspondent in LONDON]
The founder of the Hebrew Legion in Britain. Major Samuel Weiser, who with his wife and two young daughters will be the first British family to give up their British nationality to become citizens of Israel. The Weiser family are leaving for Israel towards the end of March. Weiser said: “I am going to Israel to ensure a future for my children. I didn’t want them brought up under the cloud of anti-Semitism. Although I personally have never suffered from anti-Semitism that isn’t to say it doesn’t exist in Britain and other countries.”
Weiser’s daughters intend to breed horses in Israel.
