KARORO DOMAINBOARD’S SUCCESSFUL VOLUNTEER WORK

A special meeting of the residents of the locality related to the work of the Karoro Domain Board was last evening held for the purpose of filling two vacancies on the Board, and Messrs Douglas Batty and Norman McKnight were elected by the meeting to the positions. Mr J. B. Kent, M.P., was present at the meeting, and paid a high tribute to the Board for its display of a community spirit and for the very creditable efforts of the members to add another recreational area to the town for the benefit of the residents.

WORK OF THE BOARD The Domain Board has, with the aid of volunteer labour, and the raising of funds, together with a grant of £3OO from the Government, made already a notable success of its project to form a recreational area at Karoro in proximity to the .seashore, and at the southern end of the Karoro area. Two and a-half acres have been cleared and prepared for the formation of a bowling green, two tennis courts, and a playing area for children. The Board has already laid out more than £5OO on the job, including £3OO on a contract for clearing and levelling by mechanical means. The volunteer workers have devoted to the job 2192 man-hours, and the average attendance of these workers has been eight. All Karoro residents are eligible for the Board’s undertaking and its operations have now been in progress for two years. It is honed, with additional support, to have the domain completed in the near future. All who have viewed the undertaking have been impressed very favourably with it.
