FORGERY OF TOTE TICKET ALLEGED

WELLINGTON, Feb 23.

A plea of not guilty was entered by Raymond Hector Judd, aged 00, a soldier, in the Magistrate’s Court to-day to a charge of attempted theft of £55 Bs, the property of the Wellington Racing Club. He was committed by Mr A. M. Goulding, S.M., to the Supreme Court for trial. A totalisator pay-out clerk said m evidence that after the fifth race at Trentham on January 24, a soldier presented a ticket for payment on the winner of the preceding race. Witness saw that the ticket had been altered from the original correct number of six to 16, and he refused to accept it. The dividend on the race was £55 Bs. Detective-Sergeant Craigie said he interviewed the accused at Trentham who said a man. whom he did not know, gave him the ticket to collect on.
