Woollen Goods to Cost More Without Subsidy in Australia

SYDNEY, February 23

Woollen manufacturers predict that the prices of woollen goods will rise steeply within the next few months because they are rapidly using their stocks of unsubsubsidised raw wool and will have to pay more for ‘new supplies. The Federal subsidy on raw wool ended last July, and manufacturers say that since then they have had to pay four times as much for raw wool.

The managing director of one woollen company said that the increase was likely to be 9s on lib of yarn, which would cause a rise of £3 to £4 in the price of a man’s suit.
