A by-election yesterday to fill a vacancy on the fn,vercargill City Council, caused by the death of Mr J. Pickard, resulted in the success of Mr G. Agnew, by a majority of 220 votes. Little interest was taken by the electors, only 4284 voting out of a total of 118,000 on the roll.—P.A. Have you seen Jeff’s new bar ? Empire Hotel. Ross.—Advt. Mr. E.
