Denniston Domain

Because the Denniston Domain Board and the sporting bodies in the district to not want the domain grassed, an offer of a Government subsidy of £3OOO to undertake the work, made by the member for Buller, the Hon. C. F. Skinner, was rejected at a meeting by the Minister and members of the Buller County Council. Cr M. Clarke, secretary of the Domain Board said that the Board and sports bodies did not want grass on the domain. Another ground was required, but the domain was ideal for hockey and soccer. The Community Centre, which had nothing to do with tlie domain had made the request for grassing, which the Domain Board opposed. The Government was willing to assist the Domain Board, said Mr Skinner, but if no help were required a lot of trouble would be saved. He was certain that the Government would be agreeably surprised to find that it was £3OOO better off as a result of the Board's attitude.
