ITALIAN OPERA COMPANY ARRIVES

AUCKLAND, Feb. 22.

Italian seemed to be the principal language in the Monowai when she arrived from Sydney to-day. This was her first passenger voyage to Auckland since 1940 when she entered on a notable war record.

Eighty-seven members of the Italian Grand Opera Company spoke volubly in high tones as the liner berthed. They gesticulated, laughed and joined in the banter as they posed for photographs. Other members recruited in New Zealand will bring the total to 150 for the 12 week’s Dominion tour. “This is the biggest organisation we have brought to New Zealand,” said Mr J. N. Tait, director of J. C. Williamson Theatres Ltd., and the Grand Opera Company. He said the Australian tour had been a great success.
