GREYMOUTH BAND WELCOMED ON RETURN FROM CONTEST
Many friends and relatives of members of the Greymouth Municipal Band assembled at the Railway Station yesterday afternoon when the band returned from Auckland where it competed in the Dominion contest. Soon after arrival, the bansmen assembled and played the march “Invercargill,” 'after which they were greeted by the Mayor and Mayoress. Mr and Mrs F. F. Boustridge, who were accompanied by the Town Clerk, Mr N. E. Clemens.
The Mayor said that the citizens welcomed the return of the band and congratulated the members on the full establishment of the confidence imposed in them before their departure for Auckland. The town did not expect them to make a clean sweep, but that they would hold their own in their display of talent. This he was pleased to say had been upheld, and the band had performed most creditably. Mr Boustridge particularly congratulated J. Rafferty, the Dominion euphonium solo champion, and expressed to all members of the band the appreciation of the citizens for the fine work they had done in Auckland. Their training would stand them in good stead in the future he concluded. Briefly responding, the conductor. Mr L. Hall, thanked the Mayor and citizens for their welcome and assumed them of the band’s interest in all civic matters. __
