U.S. WAR EQUIPMENT FOR WEST EUROPE
12 to 20 Thousand Million Dollars Worth (Rec. 11.45) WASHINGTON. Feb. 21 President Truman will seek now authority to transfer non-surplus U.S. military equipment, to Western Europe, and to other areas overseas. This is reported by the New York Time’s correspondent, Mr James Reston. He says: An Arms Bill is now being written by the State Department. It seems likely that' it will go before Congress in March or April, and that the state Department will be charged with decidin- which nations shall get arms,, and in what amounts and what priority. The United Press says: The amount sought for this non-surplus military equipment is from twelve hundred millions to two thousand million dollars. A bill requesting this amount will go to Congress as “a trailer” to the proposed North Atlantic security pact.
