FUNERAL OF LATE REV. FR. J. McMONAGLE

The funeral yesterday morning at Christchurch of the Rev. Father James McMonagle, late parish priest of Runanga, was very numerously attended, there being a large congregation at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, where Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by the. Right Rev. Monsignor Jas. Long, of Greymouth, with whom the late priest was here associated for over seven years in his first appointment after his arrival from Donegal, Eire. Rev. Fathers J. Holohan and T. Foley (also were both formerly stationed at Runanga), were respectively Deacon and Sub-Deacon, while the Rev. Dr Harrison (Addington) .was Master of Ceremonies. The Divine Office was sung, by a choir of the clergy, the Cantors’ being Rev. Fathers M. Jones and W. O’Mahc,ney. The Right Rev. Monsignor J. A. Kennedy (Beckenham), on behalf of Bishop P. F. Lyons (who war- unaovoidably absent) expressed sympathy with the clero-v and also the parishioners, of the "deceased, in the loss of a worthy priest who for 28 vears had given notable service to the diocese, and whose death they all lamented. There was a large representation of the Marist, Redemptorist, and other religious orders, also of Runanga and other West Coast parishes present at Bromley Cemetery, where Monsignor Kennedy performed at the graveside the last rites of the Church.
