The confusion of bottles of camphorated oil and castor oil resulted in the death of the 17-months-old infant son of Mr and Mrs Thomas W. Jamieson, Hopelands .Woodville. The father told the Coroner that the mother decided to give the child a dose of castor oil and handed the father a. bottle and spoon from which, without looking at the label, he three-parts filled the spoon and his wife gave the contents to the child. As soon as this was done it was discovered that a mistake had been made and that camphorated not castor oil had been administered. Despite medical advice and aid the child subsequently died in the Dannevirke Hospital. Z verdict was returned that death os due to respiratory and cardiac failure, caused by camphor poisoning through a mistake in the administration of oil by the parents.
