Financial Support for Unemployed Auckland Carpenters

AUCKLAND, Feb. 21. Fifteen hundred carpenters in Auckland, dismissed because of the union’s go-slow policy, remain out of a job. Delegates of the union met to-day. Executives of allied unions in the building trade also met. No statements were made for publication. Some unemployed carpenters are reported to have taken painting jobs and other employment. Sixty-seven workers representing the Penrose branch of the Wood-pulp and Papermakers’ Union with other unionists employed by the New Zealand Forest Products, passed a resolution supporting the Carpenters’ Union and pledging financial support if required. The Wellington union . telegraphed to-day that £450 was being sent for the funds and further financial support was being organised.
