CRICKET Queensland Versus South Australia
(Rec. 7.30) BRISBANE, Feb. 20 Queensland ended the second day of the Sheffield Shield match against South Australia with a lead of 158 and with two wickets in hand. The best performer was Keith Jack, who is twenty-one years of age, with a flawless 81 not out. Scores: — Queensland first innings, 335 for eight wickets. —Brown 39, Carrigan 52, Morris 33, McCool 36, Jack not out 81. O’Neill 2 for 66, Gogler 2 for 51, McLean 2 for 115.
Women’s Third Test Match
(Rec. 7.50) BRISBANE, Feb. 20 The first day’s play in the third women’s cricket test match between England and Australia saw England dismissed for 172. The top scorer was the captain, Molly Hide, who made a sound and enterprising 63 and did so in quick time. Joan Schmidt, of Melbourne, fielding in the slips, took three brilliant catches. The spectators numbered five thousand. The majority of them had not known what to expect from women cricketers. They stayed late and applauded frequently. Scores: — England, first innings, 172:—Hide 63, Wilkinson 27. Hudson took 3 for 11, Whiteman 2 for 31, Craddock 2 for 33. Australia in the first innings lost one wicket for 32.
