OBITUARY Rev. Father J. McMonagle

The death occurred early yesterday morning, at the Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, of the Rev. Father James McMonagle, parish priest ot Runanga, who was widely known on the West Coast and in Canterbury. He was born in. County Donegal, Eire, in 1896, and arrived in New Zealand m 1923, coming first to Greymouth, where he was stationed at St Patrick’s parish, until in 1926 when he was transferred to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Christchurch. He was stationed later for a number of years at the Chatham Islands, after which . lie took charge of the parish of Darfield, where he built the present church. He then officiated for some time at Sumner, prior to his transfer in April last to take charge of the parish of Runanga. A priest of the most genial and kindly disposition. the late Father McMonagle was very highly esteemed by all who knew him, and verv general regret will b" felt at his death. The funeral will take olac n at Ch-'stchurrh. following Requiem Mass at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, to-morrow morning. ' —
