LABOUR WINS THURSDAY’S BYEELECTION IN BRITAIN

(Rec. 9.0). LONDON, February 18. The Batley and Morley by-election resulted: Dr. A. D. Broughton (Labour) 24,515; Mr A. M. Ramsden (Conservative) 16,828). The vacancy was caused by the death of Captain Beaumont. His majority in 1945 was nearly 11,000. Labour has now won 40 of the 47 byelections held since 1945.
