No coal was available until yesterday for the Titoki, clue to load for Tarakohe and loading was not commenced when the vessel arrived on Wednesday. Coal railed in January, 1949 from Westport to l the East Coast, amounted to 8039 tons 1 cwt. That total is made up as follows: Millerton 1328 tons 4cwt; Denniston 408 tons 7cwt: Stockton 4475 tons 6c.vt; Charming Creek 840 tons lOcwt; Happy Valley 613 tons 2cwt; BurleyPaine 52 tons 12 cwt; Charleston 321 tons.
The winner of the baritone solo at the New Zealand band contest, C. Tregurtha, was highly praised by the judge, He is a son of Mr and Mrs H. Tregurtha, of Westport. He is a former member of the Westport Boys band.
