DECREASE OF OVER 500 ON WESTLAND ROLL FOR REFERENDA
There will be 535 fewer people in Westland entitled to vote in the gaming and licensing referenda to be held on March 9 than there were for the Westland by-election in December, 1947. At that time 15,570 names were on the main and two supplementary rolls, but when enrolments closed this week for the forthcoming poll, the number had dropped to 15.035.
Yesterday, the registrar of electors, Mr W. M. Fraser, stated that approximately 25 pei’ cent, of -enrolment forms had been filled in incorrectly, while a large number had been received after the closing of rhe roll on Monday last. These will not be included on the No. 3 Supplementary roll which will contain only 613 names.
Failure' to notify change of address, within the electorate does not disqualify a person from voting, if that person was on the roll at the time of the last election or the byelection. Since 1947, 180 notifications of change of address have been received by Mi’ Fraser, and 1148 names have been removed from the main and two supplementary rolls previously used.
