Smuggling in Germany Very Costly
BERLIN, February 17. The British and American Military Governors in Germany (General Sir Brian Robertson and General Lucius Clay) have announced that in an effort to cut down smuggling, which has cost £40,000,000, German guards are to make custom checks on all Britons and allies entering or leaving Western Germany. General Clay said that a Western officer would bo at inspections at specified places. “If necessary I shall put out the entire army on the borders”, he said. Parcels by mail would be closely checked.
