FORGED CARDINAL’S HAND-WRITING BEFORE TRIAL

Hungarian Experts’ Statements VIENNA, Feb. 16

A story of how they helped to forge some of the documents used in the ore-trial campaign against- Cardinal Mindszenty was tojd to the American authorities by Lazzlo and Hanna Sulner, two Hungarian hand-writing experts who fled to Vienna from Budapest after the Cardinal’s trial. The material purported to show that Cardinal Mindszenty was an opportunist, a domineering egoist, unpriestlike and like a war criminal. The Sulner’s said they made the forgeries on Hungarian nolice instructions and taught the forgery technique to the police, who iatm used it. One process _ involved the production of an “original document from a photostat copy. Another allowed a perfect handwriting forgery to be made by the use of .original bona fide letters and a special machine. . The Sulner’s are now preparing detailed proof of their assertions for possible use by the United Nations, if it decided to take action. Cardinal’s Appeal May Not be Heard for Months BUDAPEST, Feb. 16 Cardinal Mindszenty’s appeal to the Hungarian Supreme Peoples Court for a reduction in his life imprisonment sentence may not be acted on for months, according to Hungarian officials quoted by the British United Press correspondent. New negotiations have taken place between the Roman Catholic Chui ch and the Hungarian Government since the Cardinal’s arrest or aie being contemplated in the near future, the officials added. Henry Wallace Again Alleges War-mongering (Rec 95) NEW YORK. Feb 16. Mr Henry Wallace, addressing . a Labour Party meeting, said: “Certain elements in certain church groiips are inciting war-breeding hatreds and hvsteria. I have been concerned that certain Protestant Ministers and certain Jewish Rabbis should have joined so completely in current warmongering, based on Cardinal Mmdszentv’s case. The path of Jesus is certainly to act to allay tension, not to increase it.” Mr Wallace said that, one of the outstanding characteristics of American democracy had been its msistance on complete separation of Church and Slate.
