NAPIER, February 17. The principle of having uniform traffic signs throughout New Zealand was approved by the Municipal Association at its annual conference in Napier. The president, Mr W. Appleton) said that it would not tie anyone to any specific type of signs, but would enable legislation standardising them to. be brought forward for consideration. AXLE LOADS The Main Highways Board and the Counties’ Association were unhappy about a suggestion that axle load weight limits for heavy vehicles using unclassified roads should be increased, said Mr W. G. Belton, a representative of ' the New Zealand Counties’ Association and a member of the Highways Board, at the conference. The Main Highways Board was totally at variance' with the Transport 'Department on this matter. and considered that if weight limits were increased a greater allocation should be made from the petrol tax to allow the roads to be strengthened. The conference referred the matter to its executive.
