Mr H. Leopold left yesterday morning for Wellington. Mr and Mrs H. Morgan returned by yesterday morning’s express to Auckland.
Mrs C. Stillier arrived yesterday from Christchurch on a holiday visit to Greymouth.
Mrs D. Glendinning and her daughter, Gwen, arrived last evening from Lower Hutt.
Mr E. P. Norman, of Wellington, was elected president of the New Zealand Town Clerks’ Institute at its annual conference at Napier. Mr H. S. Feast (Christchurch) was elected vice-president.
Eight English school teachers who have exchanged duties with New Zealad teachers for a year, arrived yesterday at Wellington from London on the “Rakaia.” The teachers said they are looking forward eagerly to life in New Zealand. They are Misses C. Cobbledick. D. S. Huitt. M. Muggreidge. J. M. Birkenhead. M. S. Pedler J. Sutherland, A. M. Mathewson, and I. M. Holland. They are to be posted to schools in various parts of the Dominion. —Press Assn.
Mrs M. J. Forde, J.P., Dominion President of the National Council of Women, is at present engaged m a tour, during which she is paying an official visit to each branch of the organisation throughout New Zealand. The National Council of Women is an international body, having branches in most countries to-day, and the affiliations in New Zealand have an aggregate membership of upwards of 94 000 women. Mrs Forde will arrive in’ Greymouth on Tuesday, February 22, and will confer with members of the Greymouth branch.
Two Southland candidates have been announced for the “Miss New Zealand” quest. They are Miss Pauline Metzger, of Bluff, and Miss Joan Telfer, of Invercargill. The former is being sponsored by the Bluff branch of the R.S.A., and the latter by the Southland branch of the Air Force Association. Miss Metzger, aged 21, is the daughter of Mr and Mrs O. F. Metzger, of Bluff, and D interested ir. music and sport. Miss Telfer, aged 23, is the daughter of Mr and Mrs R. J. Telfer, of Napier, and was born at Gore. Miss Telfer is a dental nurse in charge of the clinic at North Invercargill school. She also is interested in music and sports, and she was a member of Doctor Orbell s partv which discovered the notornis. —Press Assn
