■ AUCKLAND, Feb. 17 H “It appears that we are putting H sport before university training,” H said Mr M. G. Lee at a meeting of the H Auckland Education Board when H commenting on the fact that, in two successive items of its agenda, the ■ board had refused a woman teacher ■ eight months’ leave of absence to attend • university lectures to complete Bachelor of Arts degree, but had indefinite leave of absence to ■Mr B. Sutcliffe an assistant teacher the Kowhai Intermediate School, ■to enable him to travel to England the New Zealand cricket team. “Leave of this nature has never declined,” replied’ the chairman •Mr G. K. Hamilton!. The board deto congratulate Mr Sutcliffe also Mr F. B. Smith, a teacher the Canterbury Education on being chosen for the tourteam.
