GREY MAIN SCHOOL COMMITTEE

At a meeting of the Grey Main School Committee there were present Messrs F. C. Thomson (chairman), P. Wilkins, D. S'. Binnie, J. Bruertoq, A. L. Jamieson, N. Shallcrass, N A. Kilgour, J. Graham (headmaster), and L. F. Anderson (secretary). The chairman reported that as a result of the efforts made bv Mr J. B. Kent, M.P., two representatives for the district had been elected to the Canterbury Education Board. It was decided to forward to Mr Kent a letter of appreciation. The appointment of Mr H. W. Clifford to the teaching staff of the school was approved. It was decided that a letter of congratulation be forwarded to Miss A. Anderson and Master G. M. Truman, winners of the Watkins Medals, and also to Master Brian Gilberthorpe winner of the Seddon Medal. The chairman said the Education Board had installed two lights in the Standard 6 room. It was decided to approach the board with a view to replacing the present gas urn with an electric heater. The Board advised that the school memorial gates and fence would be painted as soon as possible. It was decided to get an estimate and advise the Board as to the cost of improvements to lawns and playing areas, with kerbings reconstructed by Messrs La Roche and Pennycock,’ agricultural instructors.
