British Miners’ Leaders Repudiate Communist General Secretary

LONDON, October 28.

After a meeting of the National Union of Mine Workers’ executive a statement was issued declaring that the statements by the general secretary, Mr Arthur Horner, on the French strike were contrary to union policy and unauthorised, and disclaimed by the national executive committee, which confirmed the repudiation of Mr Horner’s statement by the president, Mr Will Lawther. The executive “wishes to make it plain that a recurrence of such conduct will not be tolerated,” added the statement.

The executive decided to appoint a sub-committee to draft a statement to members replying to Mr Horner’s statement and defining union policy. (Mr Horner said in Paris that the British miners supported the French miners’ strike)

Mr Horner, referring to-day to the statement issued by the National Union of Mine Workers’ executive, said, “I am not resigning, I am carrying on.”
