Fines For British Absentee Miners

(Received October 29, 6.55 p.m.) LONDON, October 29. Disciplinary committees are to be set up at all pits, with power to deal with absentee miners, under a plan drawn up by the Point Production Committee of the Coal Board and the National Union of Mine Workers. Persistent absentees will be fined £2, which they can win back by a full attendance ovelr the next 12 weeks. In extreme cases, absentees may be prosecuted or dismissed, and where this action is taken, the Union will not support or countenance support being given to the men concerned
