CRIPPS CALLS FOR GREATER EFFORT IN PRODUCTION

(Rec. 8.0) LONDON, Oct. 29 The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps, in a broadcast said that he was disturbed at the lag in the production increase. “Over the past two years, production has gone up well, and in June, it was nearly one-quarter up on 1946, but this was largely because we had more people at work —over 19,000,000 compared with less than 17,500,000 two years earlier. “Unless we all co-operate in improving production methods the only way out will be longer hours, or what is unthinkable —the failure to regain our economic independence,” he said.
