Royal Visit To Westport

The following arrangements for the Royal visit to Westport have been announced by the Mayor, Mr J. M. Robertson :— The civic reception at Westport will be of short duration, and will be conducted on the lines laid down by Mr J. W. Heenan. They provide for the Mayor to meet the Royal party at the dais on Victoria Square and to present members of local bodies and their wives, to the numbei’ set down in the instruction which will be given to the Mayor, and to make a presentation to Their Majesties. The National Anthem will be sung, and cheers given for the Royal party, but no speeches are to be allowed. School children will line the route to Victoria Square and members of Returned Services Associations will assemble near the dais. No assemblies will be allowed at the aerodrome, but the public will be able to witness arrivals and departures on both days at the Hotel Buller. ROUTE THROUGH STREETS Detailed arrangements are in the hands of the officers of the Borough and County Councils, and they, with the Mayor and County chairman, will have suitable decorations erected along the route, as well as on the offices of the two local bodies. Business people and other residents en route will be expected to make their own arrangements for decorations. Fol’ the benefit of those wishing to decorate, it can be stated that the proposed route in the borough will be from the Buller bridge along Bentham Street and Palmerston Street, turning into Brougham Street at the Pose Office and entering the Square at the Wai’ Memorial Gates; leaving the Square by the Queen Street gate into Lyndhur|: and along to Palmerston Street to the Hotel Buller. The Royal tour manager will from time to time advise local body officers of further details of the tour as it will affect this district, and will issue instructions when he considers it necessary. No alterations to the arrangements already made will be allowed without his approval.
