Mrs. Catherine Sullivan
The death of an old and highly esteemed resident of Hokitika, Mrs. Catherine Sullivan, occurred at her residence, 28 Park Street, yesterday. A. native of Castle Gregory County Kerry, Eire, the lute Mrs. Sulhvan was in her ninety-fifth year. She had arrived over seventy-three years ago at Hokitika, and was predeceased in 1918 by her husband, John Sullivan, who was for many years one of the senior members of the staff of the Seaview Mental Hospital. Although latterly- in failing health, the late Mrs. Sullivan maintained all of her faculties remarkably. She leaves two step-daughters, Mother Mary Mercedes,’ of Timaru, Superior of the Order of the Sisters of Mercy for the Canterbury Diocese; and Sister Mary Chanel, of the Convent of Mercy, Hokitika. She is also survived by two nephews, Messrs Victor and James Twomey, of Canterbury. The funeral, preceded by Requiem Mass at 9.30 a.m., will leave St. Mary’s Church for the Hokitika Cemetery to-morrow morning.
