Crowd Storms “Red” Dean’s Meeting

LONDON, October 26. Between 60 and 70 people stormed the Stoke Newington Town Hall tonight in an attempt to break up. a peace conference to be addressed by the “Red” Dean of Canterbury ana Mr Konni Zillacus, a Labour M.P In the struggle broken bottles were used and two men were injured before the crowd was dispersed by 20 police. One man was detained by the police. The trouble started when a man was refused admittance to the hail. In a matter of minutes a brawl wa, in force, with bottles, steel bell buckles, and steel-framed chan, a being wielded. x The police had trouble in dispersing the crowd which was shouting anti-Communist and anti-Semitic slogans and exploding fireworks. One of the organisers of the meeting declared: “About 60 Fascists were to blame. We were warned that Fascists would attempt to storm the doors.” When the Dean of Canterbury arrived, order had been lestoied.
