A.L.P. VERSUS COMMUNIST PARTY

SYDNEY, August 10. Open warfare between the Australian Labour Party and the Communist Party has broken out in the ranks of housewives. The State Labour Party has declared that two prominent members of a new housewives’ association have placed tnemselves outside the Labour Party. Action was taken against the women, because they remained members of the association after the Labour executive had declared it a Communist-controlled body. Last night, when Mrs M'. Barton, president of the new housewives’ association, attended a meeting of a suburban branch of the Labour Party, the chairman asked her repeatedly to leave, saying that he had received advice that she was outside the Labour Movement. She refused to leave, and the chairman gave up, saying that, as a man, he could not use physical force to eject her.
