CHRISTCHURCH, May 9. The Raranga, • a steamer of the Shaw Savill and Albion Co., was about a dozen men short in her crew when the time for departure from Lyttelton last night approached. The vacancies were readily filled by the many New Zealanders who' were available who signed the ship’s articles for the passage Home. Altogether twenty-nine replacements had' to be made through desertions during the vessel’s stay on the New Zealand coast.
