U.S. Conscription Necessary to Counter Soviet Moves
(Rec, 8.30) WASHINGTON, May 8 A majority report of the House ,of Armed Services Committee to-day appealed for the prompt enactment of a bill drafting 19 to 25-year-old men for two years’ service as Russia mav “risk a showdown” with the United States at any moment. The report, added that recent Soviet moves had raised "tne ominous po:» sibility that Russia may gamble on a showdown on the assumption that the future can bring only a worsening of the Soviet position.” A minority report of the committee however, denounced the Bill as “a programme for war,”
