ENGLISH GIRL PREFERS NEW ZEALAND

CHRISTCHURCH, May 8. Believing that New Zealand offers more opportunities to young people than England, Miss Edna Chase, who snent some' of the war years in Christchurch as. an evacuee from Britain, returned to the city yesterday morning after nearly three years back home with her parents at Egham, Surrey. Miss Chase arrived at Auckland from Liverpool by the motor-ship Deseado' earlier this week. She is now living with Miss E. D. Ede, of Spreydon, who looked after her from the age of 11 to the age of 15. Miss Chase, who is an attractive iS-year-old, was aged 10 when she was evacuated from England. She attended the Christchurch West High School, and then returned to England in 1945. In England she went to . a commercial college before taking up work as a shorthand-typiste. “I had looked forward so much to going back to England, but I was sadly disappointed”, she said to-day. Everything seemed to have changed. I found that I was missing New Zealand and that I preferred the life out here. It is much freer for young people like myself”. Miss Chase hopes that her parents will migrate to New Zealand later.
