No fewer than seventeen loou ships will this month leave New Zealand for Britain carrying more tnun one hundred thousand tons. The Orari, Port Hobart and Port ‘Jackson have already sailed fo r London with more than 20,000 tons of butter, meat and cheese. Believed to be a record fruit shipment, 165,000 cases or apples will leave the Dominion on the Condesa, which is also taking 2000 tons of meat. She is due to sail for London on May 28. While the remaining ships’ cargoes consists almost wholly of butter, meat, cheese and some fruit, some vessels have limited refrigerated space. This means that a high proportion of general cargo will be taken, which is not included in the overall figure of 100,000 tons.

At the opening of the May meeting of the Moana W.1., held in the School room, Mrs Price presided over a good attendance. The meeting commenced with the singing of the Ode. Birthday sprays were presented to Mcsdames R>. Dense and C. Williams by the president, Mrs D. Price. A verv interesting demonstration on crocheted woollen squares for a cushion cover, was given by Mrs J. White. The best bloom winner was Mrs Malcolm. The prize for Mothers' competition, given by Miss Southam was won by Mrs E. Dense. The tray cloth competition winners were Mesdames Feary Price and Malcolm equal. They are to be sent to the Mcßrearty Ward, Gre v River Hospital. Mrs Greenhill kindly donated a gift to be competed for. The lucky lady was Mrs C. Williams. The successful winner of the wandering shilling was Mrs Stiles. The social half-hour passed all too quickly and the meetiing was brought to a close with the" singing of the New Zealand 1 National Anthem. Mesdames R. Dense A. Stiles and S. Mumford were the hostesses.
