The Minister of Rehabilitation, the Hon. C. F. Skinner, who is visiting Reefton, met members of the Inangahua County Council yesterday afternoon.

The Minister of Rehabilitation, the Hon. C. F. Skinner, and Mr R. Rowling were appointed members of the Cawthron Trust Board, according to a gazette notice published last night. The reappointment of Dr W. R. B. Oliver, and Mr D. C. Aston as members of the Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand was also gazetted. —Press Assn.

The Coadjutor-Archbishop of Wellington, the Most Rev. Dr. Peter McKeefry, with their Lordships Most Rev Drs. J. M. Liston (Auckland), P. F. Lyons (Christchurch) and H. J. O’Neill (Dunedin), left Auckland by Skymaster airliner for Sydney yesterday afternoon to attend the Centennial celebrations of the foundation of the Melbourne archdiocese.

Mr E. Caradus, who recently retired from the position of chief inspector of post-primary schools, has also relinquished his appointment of educational adviser to the R.N.Z.A.F. On the occasion of his retirement he was entertained at afternoon tea by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, those present including all the members of the Air Board and many senior officers. Tributes were paid to Mr Caradus’s work both before and during the war.

The resignation of Mr F. McGirr, after 40 years’ service, was received at last evening’s meeting of the Grevmouth Borough Council. Mr McGirr, who has been employed with the Municipal Gas Department, wished his resignation to take effect from May 19. The resignation was accepted. The thanks of the council is to be conveyed in a letter to Mr McGirr, and appreciation is to be recorded in the minutes.

Miss Mary Wootton (“Miss New Zealand”), wearing a black and white striped crinoline, attended her first film premiere in London when she went to the Gaumont Theatre, Haymarket, to see “Broken Journey’’. She also saw a newsreel of herself arriving in England. At the film premiere were Mrs C. R. Attlee, wife of the Prime Minister, and the Foreign Secretary (Mr Bevin). Little news has been published in the national press about Miss Wootton’s arrival or the reasons for it. The newsreel should introduce her to a wide public. Judging by lack of comment, few social writers have yet met her.
