Naval Vessel on the Beach in South Australia
ADELAIDE, April 19.
The presence of 80,000 spectators hampered the week-end attempts to refloat the sloop H.M.A.S. Barcoo, which was stranded near Glenelg eight days ago during a hurricane. Hundreds of cars blocked the roads to the beach and extra police endeavoured to clear working room for salvage parties. The vessel is firmly bedded in sand, which has banked up Io seaward, complicating Hhe salvage attempts. A dredge has been commissioned to pump the sand from around the sloop but continued heavy sea's,have made working difficult.
