DROUGHT ENDED IN AREAS AROUND WANGANUI
P.A WANGANUI, April 19 Rain has been falling fairly heavily, in. showers of long duration. since midnight on Sunday, and this has alleviated the drought conditions in the Wanganui. Taihape, Rankitikei districts.. It has been an exceptionally drv season throughout most of those areas. In some of them It -has been the driest within living memory. Cattle have fared badly. Farmers, when asked .to-day what they thought of the present position, said that the rain had come too late to be be of much value to the cattle breeder, who was contemplating a hard winter. To-day’s rain has fallen mainly along the coastal belt, but there have been some falls inland.
